The script for this job was very loose. All that was briefed was a droplet of ink at the beginning, and a mouse forming out of ink at the end – everything else was up for discussion. We needed to find lots of hi-res ink footage at the right angles and the right speed, so the best and most cost-effective way of doing this was to shoot it. Armed with a Canon 5D, a fish tank and different coloured food dyes, we shot the elements.
All the elements needed cleaning up, stabilising and then compositing into the scene. The final resolve of the hero mouse was a combination of live-action elements and Flame’s particle generator.
