The Wagon Wheels are in motion at Nice Biscuits

Nice Biscuits has completed the post production on the Wagon Wheels cinema and on-line commercial directed by Luke Taylor at Big Balls Films for advertising agency VCCP.
The commercial is part of a £2.5 million investment by Burton’s Biscuit Company into the re-launch of the Wagon Wheels brand. The campaign entitled ‘more to discover’, is inspired by teens’ and young adults’ sense of adventure and exploration and revolves around there being more to Wagon Wheels as one might think.

Nice Biscuits created 11 versions of the 6 episode series that tells the story of a group of teenagers in a campervan who believe they have discovered something mysterious about Wagon Wheels.

In every episode, NB’s VFX Flame artist, Pete Young created a Wagon Wheel model which was then lit and textured by their Cinema 4D department. Once the biscuit was shot, CGI was used to build the UFO morphing into the Wagon Wheel which was comped into the laptop screen. Pete then animated statistics onto the screen and also inserted the original 1979 ad given as evidence by the concerned teenagers.

The advert documents the teenager’s efforts to warn the world of their discovery by using home camera effects and glitches between shots to suggest interference.  Pete then designed the titles for the URL using the same glitch effects.

Colourist, Martin Southworth, graded the series of adverts to help create this atmospheric filmic feel.
